How to Create a Website Step by Step: Domain, Hosting and Launch

To create a website, decide what the site must do, register a domain, buy a hosting plan, install WordPress or a site builder, turn on SSL, build a handful of core pages, then connect Google Search Console and a Google Business Profile so people can find you. If your text and photos are ready, a simple company site can go live in a weekend. Most of the time goes into content, not technology.

This roadmap is written for business owners in Egypt and the region who want a site that brings enquiries, not a design project that never ends. Follow the steps in order; each one depends on the one before it.

Step 1: Decide what the website has to do

Write one sentence: "A visitor should be able to ___." Fill the blank with the single most important action. For example: request a quote, call or message on WhatsApp, book an appointment, or buy a product. That sentence decides the site type:

  • Company or service site: 5 to 8 pages explaining what you do, with clear contact options. Most businesses need only this.

  • Portfolio: projects with photos and short case notes, common for contractors, designers and architects.

  • Catalog: products with prices or "ask for price", ordering by WhatsApp or phone. A middle step before a full store.

  • Online store: cart, payment, shipping and order management. More work, more maintenance.

  • Booking site: clinics, salons, trainers, with a calendar plugin or booking service.

Also decide the language now. If you need Arabic and English, choose a theme that handles right-to-left layout properly and plan the pages in both languages from the start.

Step 2: Choose and register your domain

Pick a name that is short, easy to say on the phone, and spelled the same way in English and in Franco-Arabic. Avoid hyphens and numbers that people will mishear. For a business serving Egypt, .com works everywhere, and .eg or .com.eg signals a local presence. Many businesses register both.

Two rules matter more than the name itself. Register the domain in your own name or your company's name, never in a developer's account. And check the renewal price before paying. You can search .com, .eg and other extensions at once on the IM HOST domain search, which shows the renewal price before you buy.

Step 3: Choose a hosting plan

For a business site built with WordPress, managed WordPress hosting is the right starting point. You do not need a VPS for a company site. What to look for:

  • NVMe storage and server-side caching (LiteSpeed is a good sign) so pages load quickly.

  • Free SSL and daily backups included, with an easy way to restore.

  • Email accounts on your domain, so you can use info@ and sales@ addresses.

  • A staging tool to test changes before they go live.

  • Server location close to your visitors and support that answers at night and on weekends.

If the terms are new to you, read what web hosting is and how it works first, then use our fast WordPress hosting checklist for Egypt to compare plans. IM HOST WordPress hosting starts from $3.99/mo and includes a free domain on plans, free SSL, daily backups and one-click staging.

Step 4: Pay without an international card

Many people in Egypt get stuck at checkout because they do not have a card that works for foreign payments. At IM HOST you can pay by Visa or Mastercard, by crypto (USDT or BTC), with prepaid account balance, or from Egypt with InstaPay or Vodafone Cash. For the transfer methods, support sends you the details. Invoices are in USD. See all payment options, and our guide on paying for hosting without an international card covers the practical steps.

Step 5: Install WordPress (or decide on a builder)

WordPress powers a large share of the web because it is free, flexible and you own everything: files, database and content. Hosted site builders are quicker for very simple pages, but you rent the platform, moving away later is hard, and costs grow with features.

On WordPress hosting with cPanel, the one-click installer creates the site in a few minutes. Set a strong admin username (not "admin"), a long password and your real email. Our guide to installing WordPress on cPanel hosting covers both the one-click and manual paths, plus the first ten settings to change.

Step 6: Turn on SSL and force HTTPS

A free SSL certificate is issued automatically on most hosting plans once the domain points to the server. Then:

  1. Open your site with https:// and check that the padlock appears with no warning.

  2. In WordPress, go to Settings, General and make sure both addresses start with https://.

  3. Redirect all HTTP traffic to HTTPS, either from the hosting panel or with your caching plugin.

  4. If some images still load over HTTP ("mixed content"), update the old links in the database with a search-and-replace tool.

Step 7: Build the pages every business site needs

  • Home: in the first screen, say what you do, for whom and where, plus one button that matches your goal from Step 1.

  • Services or products: one page per main service if you want each to rank on Google. Include prices or price ranges where you can; visitors trust sites that show them.

  • About: who is behind the business, how long you have operated, real photos of the team or premises.

  • Contact: phone, a WhatsApp click-to-chat link, address, working hours, an embedded map and a short form.

  • Privacy policy: required if you collect any personal data through forms.

  • FAQ or blog (optional): answers to the questions customers already ask you on the phone.

Write the text before you choose colors. A plain site with clear, specific text converts better than a beautiful one that says nothing.

Step 8: Speed basics that cover most sites

  • Resize images before uploading. Around 1600 to 2000 pixels wide is enough for full-width photos. Use WebP where possible.

  • Install one caching plugin that matches your server. On a LiteSpeed server, LiteSpeed Cache is the natural choice.

  • Keep plugins few. Each one adds code to load. Delete the ones you do not use rather than only deactivating them.

  • Avoid heavy sliders and auto-playing videos on the home page.

  • Test on a real phone over mobile data, not only on office Wi-Fi, and run Google PageSpeed Insights.

Step 9: Get found on Google

  1. Google Search Console: add your site as a Domain property and verify it with the TXT record Google gives you, added in your DNS zone. Then submit your sitemap. WordPress generates one at https://example.com/wp-sitemap.xml (replace with your domain); SEO plugins usually replace it with their own.

  2. Google Business Profile: create or claim your business, choose the right category, add the address, hours, phone and website link, and upload real photos. Google will ask you to verify the business before it appears.

  3. Page titles and descriptions: give each page a title that says what it is and where, such as "Kitchen Renovation in New Cairo | Company Name".

Step 10: Maintain it

  • Weekly: update WordPress, the theme and plugins. Use staging first for big updates.

  • Monthly: download a full backup and keep it outside the hosting account. Submit a test through every form.

  • Yearly: keep domain and hosting renewal dates in your calendar, and check the content is still accurate.

Realistic time and budget (rules of thumb)

  • Domain: a .com usually costs in the range of $10 to $20 a year. Country extensions vary.

  • Hosting: a small business site runs comfortably on an entry WordPress plan of a few dollars a month.

  • Theme and plugins: free options cover most needs. Premium themes are commonly a one-time $30 to $80, sometimes with a yearly fee for updates.

  • Design help: the largest variable by far, depending on who builds it and how much content they write for you.

  • Time: a 5 to 8 page company site done yourself takes a few days of work spread over one or two weeks. A store with dozens of products takes several weeks, mostly for product photos and descriptions.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to create a website in Egypt?

If you build it yourself on WordPress, the fixed costs are the domain and hosting, which together usually stay under $100 for the first year for a small site. Hiring a designer adds the largest share, so get quotes that specify the number of pages and who writes the content.

Can I create a website without programming?

Yes. WordPress with a modern theme and a page builder lets you build a full business site by dragging blocks. Programming is only needed for custom features.

How long does it take to make a website?

The technical setup (domain, hosting, WordPress, SSL) takes under an hour. The rest depends on how quickly you prepare text and photos. A company site is often ready within one to two weeks.

Should I use WordPress or a website builder?

Use a builder for a single simple page you need today. Use WordPress if you want to own your site, add features later, rank pages on Google and move hosts freely.

Can I pay for hosting with InstaPay or Vodafone Cash?

Yes, at IM HOST customers in Egypt can pay with InstaPay or Vodafone Cash. Contact support for the transfer details.

If you are ready to start, IM HOST WordPress hosting for business websites includes the domain, SSL, daily backups and staging you need for the steps above, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Our engineers can help at any step, day or night.
